This dojo is fantastic! Randy Lawrence is a wonderful patient instructor who is great with kids of all ages and levels of ability. I participate with my kids, which includes teenagers and gradeschool kids. One of my children is developmentally challenged, and Randy's patience amazes me. He is so good at working with these special needs kids to train them up. I would recommend this dojo to anyone.

Absolutely to best place to learn karate and learn it well. Hanshi Lawrence is an incredible teacher, amazing with kids, and his love for the practice shines through in everything he does. A great way to get in shape and learn!

Hanshi Rande is much more than a karate instructor. He has been a mentor, role model, and friend for my son. He understands his emotional and psychological needs as much as his physical ones. He has helped him immensely with positive self-perception and confidence. Hanshi teaches karate as a way of life, rather than as just kicks and punches. This approach has helped my son cultivate pride in his Asian heritage, even though we live in a city that has limited opportunities for Japanese cultural immersion. And for that I am very grateful

My kids love it here! I can't say enough about Hanshi. He may seem quiet and reserved, but he knows how to teach and lead kids. He amazes me with his patience and ability to include, involve and motivate people of all abilities. He has a fair share of students with disabilities and that makes it even more impressive. Every time we come here for social events (i.e. halloween or holiday parties), I'm taken aback by the diversity of the people that come here. I don't think I've seen a more diverse "community" anywhere else. Oh, yeah, my wallet likes it better than any other place, too.

Best dojo in Syracuse. Warm friendly no pressure environment. Our oldest has been a student since 2007 & our youngest started in 2012. Recently my husband & I joined after years of watching. It looked like so much fun. Not only is karate fun, I personally have found that a lot of my aches and pains are gone. We feel great! The kids get a kick watching mom & dad practice. I can not say enough about Rande Lawrence & his group of instructors. It not about the fancy equipment & patches down the legs. This is karate in its purest & simplest form. Thank you Hanshi for all you do.

Hanshi Rande Lawrence is the type of teacher you wish could teach you everything you ever need to learn. He is extremely knowledgeable, kind, flexible and is equally adept at teaching 3-year-olds, 30-year-olds and 60-year-olds. He is truly a gift and my family's love of karate is a result of him and his dojo. We could not recommend him more!

A Typical Karate Class

A Typical Karate Class

At LWC Karate School:

1.

Every class starts with various stretching and breathing techniques designed to loosen muscles and tendons

2.

Next are a series of exercises that grow fitness and endurance

3.

Then the class often completes a key kata that has health and self-defense benefits

4.

Following this, the class focuses on learning new katas and techniques, doing drills, and learning and practicing kobido or traditional weapons

5.

The teacher then concludes with a final message
